The Lab of D.H. Lawrence
by Serban Brebenel
It was as if his usage of the various scenarios
and characters in his stories allowed him to toy
with the ‘what ifs’ within his socially
restrictive world. If real life did not allow
him to experiment with variables, and to witness
the outcome of different hypothesis testing, then
a novel could serve as a great laboratory.

Women
in Love
A Review of the Novel by D. H. Lawrence
by Serban Brebenel
The two men, Gerald and Birkin--at first glance,
they seem rather ‘gay’. Consider
the scene where they get drunk and decide
to wrestle…then decide that wrestling
naked would much better do the trick. Afterwards,
they fall asleep in each others arms. I know
what most have gotten or will get from that
scene, but what did I see?

Highlight:
by Dasan
Ahanu
A 6'7" Black male in strolls along Hillsborough
Street effortlessly blending into the backdrop.
With his tall slender frame, one could casually
receive him as an NCSU basketball player,
out for lunch between classes. Only a non-receptive
stranger would stock such a clumsy association.
A sincere look at him, and you know right
away-that this is no baller. This is a poet.

Reminiscent
of tv screens, flashy colorful day dreams
follow the sounds to the glowing gleam run
away when the streets are mean not so much
an escape nor a place to lean more so a
safe space a haven for fiends addicted to
adorable faces where every sentence muttered
does more than amazes but displaces distracting
as discussing these places we have been
the times we are in allowing flow to shape
this coffee talk over dinner stop me if
i walk over the limit are my topic sentences
reminiscent of CNN bulletins flowing but
dependant on the action of the hour the
first amendment is the one i feel holds
the most power i rant and rave as if i am
scouring the pots and pans of my past for
the past two hours spanning from my opposition
to the war to the premature deflowering
of the people of today removing the debris
the leftovers stuck to my brain thanks for
being my sink to soak and remove stains
replace pain and point the blame from blacked
out blanks i've allowed to wane and wash
away with the rain your bank account is
full of attention and I was well paid off
with an agreement on position to war is
evil people are stupid and syllabize has
a definition you were a synonym to perfection
i was an antonym to detection but i wonder
if we foreshadowed some affection in the
next election i will vote for peace but
tonight i vote for passion in my speech
when i spoke did i preach were you congregated
around an unlawful breach of opinions are
you bloodless left only with a leech the
beach is cool but the current events are
hot getting warmer towards us or cold bare
feet ready to trot you are so bouncy like
plastic toy store balls stopped by walls
spiteful employees following rules trying
to stand tall but the fun did not fall the
momentum took me for a ride my mouth and
all your eyes and gall to be yourself is
indeed a close call to... um what's the
opposite of appalled? well not flawed is
good enough for government work too bad
they don't but we both know the dirt now
my mouth hurts and i am close to the brink
lurking over my phone just so i can see
your eyes wink i sure hope that we got a
link now that you know to be sure to stop
and think!
